Pacifist – Ruins – Undertale Guide
The Ruins are the first area you will encounter in Undertale after you have woken up from your fall to the
Goat Mom (Pacifist) | Undertale 100% Walkthrough “1/25” (No Commentary)
In this part, we begin the game by clearing the entirety of the Ruins, while following the Pacifist Route. This means we will not be killing anyone, and we will find the correct way to spare everyone in every fight we get into.
In order to spare a Monster, we will have to enter our Act menu and choose the correct option to appeal to the Monster, then enter the Mercy menu and choose Spare to end the fight peacefully. We CANNOT attack and kill a single monster, or the Pacifist Route will be nullified!
Monsters:
Froggit – The first Froggit we encounter will be chased off by Toriel, so it doesn’t count.
How to Spare – Afterwards, we will inevitably encounter another, and we can Compliment it to appeal to it, then on our next turn, we can spare it. As a rule of thumb all monsters of the same name can be spared in the same way, so do this for all Froggits.
Yellow Credits Requirement – N/A
Whimsun
How to Spare – These enemies can immediately be spared upon entering a battle with them.
Yellow Credits Requirement – Make sure to “Console” at least once before leaving the Ruins!
Moldsmal
How to Spare – These enemies can immediately be spared upon entering a battle with them.
Yellow Credits Requirement – Make sure to “Flirt” at least once before leaving the Ruins!
Migosp
How to Spare – To spare this monster, we must spare all other monsters in the battle first, as Migosp can only be spared when it is the only Monster left in the battle.
Yellow Credits Requirement – Talk with it once it is alone at least once before leaving the Ruins!
Loox
How to Spare – To spare this monster, we must first Act and choose “Don’t Pick On”, then we can spare them.
Yellow Credits Requirement – N/A
Vegetoid
How to Spare – To spare this monster, Act and choose “Dinner”. During its following attack, we need to purposely run into its green carrot to “eat” it. We can then spare it the next turn assuming we ate at least one green carrot.
Yellow Credits Requirement – N/A
Boss: Napstablook
How to Spare- Napstablook, or Blooky for short, will automatically end the battle himself once conditions are met. In order for this to happen, we simply need to Act and “Cheer” four times.
Yellow Credits Requirement – N/A
Region Boss: Toriel
How to Spare – Toriel is the final boss of the Ruins section of the game, and we can spare her by choosing Spare roughly 20 times. Do NOT eat food to heal during this fight as Toriel cannot “normally” kill us anyway.
Yellow Credits Requirement – N/A
———-Additional Info———-
– Once a monster has been appealed to and is ready to be spared, its name as well as the Spare button, will turn Yellow as a signal (or Pink in my case as I chose to change the name colors).
– As said above, we CANNOT kill a single monster ever as it will instantly nullify our Pacifist Run!
– At the end of the game, we will get a Credits Sequence that will list all of the Monsters in the game. The “title” they have can be changed to a Yellow Title if we met a certain condition while battling them. I’ll list these conditions alongside their Sparing conditions. Not all monsters require one though, so that will show as N/A instead.
– After sparing Napstablook, we will find a pair of Spider Webs selling Bake Sale items in the next room. I strongly advise grinding Gold to purchase at least one of these items. If we consume this item during a future boss fight, we can end that fight instantly and make things MUCH easier for ourselves!
– While speaking to the friendly Froggits, we can choose to throw away our Yellow Sparing Names, and then choose to swap them for Pink Sparing Names if we like. This makes no difference to the Pacifist Run and can be completely ignored.
– The Toy Knife found just before Toriel’s Home is useless to us as it is a Weapon Upgrade. You do not have to bother with it. The Faded Ribbon, however, is an Armor Upgrade and equipping it is recommended as it will decrease the damage taken from enemy attacks.
– The Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie given to us from Toriel can be eaten during a future boss fight to make things MUCH easier, I strongly recommend saving it for then!
– Once we spare Toriel and exit the Ruins, we cannot go back. Make sure you’ve both properly interacted with and spared all monsters if you are attempting to get all Yellow Names during the end Credits!
Beating Muffet in Undertale in a Secret Expensive way
We all know that if you purchase the Spider Donut in the Ruins in Undertale, you’ll be able to skip through the Muffet fight and access to instantly Spare. However, if you wait until Hotland, grind G, and pay 9999G for a Spider Donut or Spider Cider there, you’ll not only skip the Muffet fight but the battle won’t even be initiated. I wonder if Deltarune will have something similar?
